Mission: We believe that our church needs to make known its continuing need for priests, sisters, brothers and deacons. We realize that the discernment of a religious vocation is between God and the person. We cannot manufacture vocations.
Therefore, we believe our mission is to:
Strategic Plan: The committee has a detailed plan on how to increase awareness and is implementing that plan through its’ various activities.
Praying for Vocations: Vocation prayer cards are available and distributed periodically. A copy is permanently affixed to the inside back cover of the parish’s blue hymn-books. For a copy of the vocation prayer, click here. We use this prayer as the closing prayer at all the masses on the first Sunday of each month, so that each first Sunday may be a reminder of our need for religious vocations.
Vocation Awareness Committee Activities:
Blessing Cup Program: This symbolizes for us the blessing that priests and religious bring to our lives. The cup is a symbol of life poured out in service. The chalice used at mass is brought home by members of our parish and used as the centerpiece of united prayer. As Christians we believe in the great power of prayer and know the importance of praying for vocations.
Manna Meal: Young men and women of high school age, that exhibit the qualities and faith for a religious vocation; are invited by the parish staff, to share a meal at the parish center. The different members of the parish staff share stories of their calling, their fulfillment and their struggles in their own particular vocation. The young people are encouraged to ask any questions of the staff.
Media Presentation: A committee has been formed to prepare a video presentation tentatively entitled, “A Day in the Life”. Young people of our parish will conduct interviews of the parish staff to gain insight to their weekly lives. The purpose is to provide an overview and perspective on the lives of priests and religious sisters.
Parish Vocation Information Center: In the gathering space of our church is a lectern containing information about religious vocations and discernment. Also listed is information on many of the religious orders that serve in New Jersey or have their offices here. Feel free to browse or borrow this information. The brochures are free for the taking.
